Synergrid, the federation of Belgian gas and electricity network managers, has announced a combined investment of €31 billion by 2030 to adapt the country's energy infrastructure for the transition towards renewable energy sources. Approximately 70% of this investment will be directed towards the electricity transmission and distribution networks.

This substantial investment reflects the magnitude of the work required to modernise and expand the energy grid to accommodate the increasing integration of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. The investment plans have been largely approved by authorities and regulators, ensuring a clear path for their execution.

The significant investment in the electricity networks highlights the crucial role they play in facilitating the shift towards a greener energy future for Belgium. This move aligns with broader European efforts to decarbonise the energy sector and achieve climate goals.
