Belgrade's ambitious plans for its third metro line are expanding further, with the possibility of extending the route to Nikola Tesla Airport. The public-utility company "Belgrade Metro and Train" has initiated a tender for project documentation worth €25.2 million to assess the feasibility of this extension, as well as other potential expansions to the original line 3 plan.

The proposed extension to the airport is part of a broader effort to enhance the connectivity and efficiency of Belgrade's public transport system. The original plan for line 3, connecting Novi Beograd with Voždovac (Banjica), was deemed insufficient to meet the city's growing transportation needs. Therefore, the project assignment now calls for exploring additional connections to key areas like the airport, BIO4 campus, Kanarevo Brdo, and Rakovica.

The project documentation will also consider the integration of line 3 with the BG train at Novi Beograd railway stations and Vuk's monument, as well as its connection with line 2 at various points. Additionally, the study will reassess passenger numbers for line 3, anticipating a higher ridership than originally estimated.

The tender is open until October 1, and the selected designer will be tasked with developing multiple route solutions for line 3, forecasting passenger numbers, and conducting an expertise on the line's potential impact on water sources in Novi Beograd.
