Coca-Cola HBC Austria GmbH has launched a significant recall of millions of soft drink bottles after discovering that metal parts may have entered some bottles during production. The recall affects Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, and Mezzomix beverages sold in 0.5-liter PET bottles, with best-before dates ranging between February 4, 2025, and April 12, 2025. The bottles in question are marked with the code "WP" printed near the label.
The recall was prompted by a technical issue during the manufacturing process, where a sieve reportedly broke, potentially allowing small metal fragments to contaminate the drinks. Coca-Cola has urged customers not to consume the affected products due to potential safety risks.
The company stated that customers can return the recalled bottles to Austrian retailers without a receipt for a full refund. Retail and catering businesses are also instructed to remove the affected bottles from circulation.
According to reports from the Kronen newspaper, around 26 million bottles are impacted by the recall.
This recall follows other recent moves by Coca-Cola to streamline operations, including the closure of several bottling sites in Germany.
