Ford is making significant strides in the autonomous vehicle space with the recent European Commission approval of its BlueCruise hands-free driving technology. This landmark decision now allows drivers in 15 European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden, to experience the benefits of hands-free driving on designated highways.
The expansion of BlueCruise's availability to these countries follows successful launches in Great Britain, Germany, and Spain in 2023, and previous approvals in the US and Canada. This brings the total number of countries where Ford's advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) is accessible to 17.
With BlueCruise, drivers can now embark on extended road trips, such as the nearly 3,000-kilometer journey from Sweden to Italy, with enhanced comfort and safety. The Level 2 "hands-off, eyes-on" system takes control of steering, acceleration, braking, and lane positioning, while continuously monitoring road conditions and traffic. A driver-facing camera ensures that drivers remain attentive and ready to take control if needed.
