Canadian-owned InteRo Property Development has started construction on its ambitious €1 billion mixed-use project, SkyLight Residence, in Bucharest's Obor area. The first phase will deliver 551 apartments across seven buildings, with occupancy planned for 2027.
The development will boast a total built area exceeding 486,000 square meters, featuring over 2,200 apartments, 115,000 square meters of office space (including an IT campus), over 4,000 parking spaces, and an 8,540 square meter commercial area.
Designed to meet the BREEAM standard for green projects, SkyLight Residence prioritises energy efficiency and sustainability. The project incorporates nearly 28,000 square meters of green space, exceeding the mandatory 30% requirement. This includes private and public parks, with a commitment to plant 1,000 large trees in the area.
The development also aims to honor the cultural heritage of the Obor area and the Aversa factory. Residential and office buildings will feature iconic red brick facades, and historic manufacturing machinery will be displayed in the park and promenade area.
Additionally, InteRo will construct a primary school for 250 children, three kindergartens, and two nurseries, catering to the educational needs of the community.
Michael Topolinski, founder of InteRo Property Development, expressed enthusiasm for the project's transformative potential and its alignment with the District 2 mayor's plan to revitalize the Gara Obor area. The project, financed by the World Bank, exemplifies intelligent development and adds value to the sustainable future of the neighbourhood.
