Just Eat Takeaway.com has introduced a groundbreaking drone delivery service in Dublin through a partnership with Manna Drones Ltd. Under the new service, food orders from participating restaurants will be loaded onto drones at local delivery hubs and delivered to customers in as little as three minutes.

The Dutch multinational, which operates in 17 countries including Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland, aims to extend the service to additional markets in the near future. This innovative approach is part of the company’s strategy to improve operational efficiency and reduce its dependence on temporary gig workers.

The move follows a period of significant change for Just Eat Takeaway.com. After delisting from the London Stock Exchange in December, the company was acquired by tech investor Prosus in an all-cash deal valued at €4.1bn. With its shares soaring following the acquisition announcement, the company is now looking to further differentiate itself in the competitive food delivery market.

Similar to initiatives launched by Walmart and Amazon in the US, Just Eat Takeaway.com’s drone service is set to transform delivery times during peak hours. Meanwhile, European competitor Foodora Group, a subsidiary of Delivery Hero, is also testing robotic and drone deliveries in Norway and Sweden.
