Portugal solidifies its role as a strategic hub in global connectivity with the arrival of the 2Africa submarine cable system in Carcavelos. Spanning 45,000 kilometers and connecting 33 countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia, this submarine cable system, dubbed the world's most extensive, has been moored at Altice Portugal's submarine cable station. The project is the result of an international consortium including Bayobab, Centre3, China Mobile International, Meta, Orange, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Group, WIOCC, and Alcatel Submarine Networks.

The 2Africa cable installation marks a technological transformation for Portugal, establishing the nation as a key player in the global landscape. This state-of-the-art infrastructure significantly boosts Portugal's connectivity and elevates its strategic importance. The increased capacity for telecommunications services will drive the country toward the vanguard of the digital era, benefiting businesses, research institutions, and individuals alike.

Portugal's commitment to technological advancement is further underscored by the anticipated arrival of Google's Nuvem submarine cable system, which will directly connect Portugal with Bermuda and the United States. Expected to become operational in 2026, Nuvem will enhance Portugal's digital infrastructure and open new avenues for global collaboration
