Rezolv Energy, a renewable energy producer focused on Central and Southeast Europe, and UK investment company Low Carbon have partnered with Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to develop the first phase of the Vifor wind project in Romania. This collaboration marks a significant step in renewable energy development in the region.
The first phase of the Vifor wind project will involve the installation of 30 Vestas wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.4 MW, totalling an initial installed capacity of 192 MW. This phase, part of a larger 461 MW project, is scheduled for completion within eighteen months and aims to be operational by the end of 2025.
Last week, Rezolv and Low Carbon secured loan facilities amounting to up to 291 million euros ($310.96 million) for this initial development phase. Once fully operational, the Vifor wind farm is expected to generate enough green energy to power over 270,000 households, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 540,000 tonnes annually.
Romanian power infrastructure company Electromontaj has won the tender to design and execute the connections to the national grid for the Vifor wind farm. Electromontaj will partner with Vestas to build a 400kV connection station, a 400/33kV transformation station in Pogoanele, and a 400kV overhead line connecting the wind farm to the existing 400kV Gura Ialomitei – Stalpu line. The grid connection project, which commenced in May, is also expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
This partnership and project underline the continued investment and development in renewable energy infrastructure in Romania and Southeast Europe. The Vifor wind farm, with its substantial capacity and environmental benefits, represents a key milestone in the region's transition to sustainable energy sources.
