Rolls-Royce has gained significant traction in its plan to construct nuclear power plants in Poland, securing the endorsement of the Polish government for its innovative Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. SMRs are a type of nuclear reactor characterized by their smaller size and modular construction, making them more adaptable and potentially cost-effective compared to traditional large-scale reactors.

The Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, expressed her support for the project, stating that it aligns with Poland's energy and climate objectives. This decision, based on a comprehensive assessment by various government agencies, paves the way for Rolls-Royce to proceed with commercial and technical negotiations for the deployment of SMR power plants in Poland.

Each SMR unit, manufactured in a factory setting, is designed to provide clean energy to power approximately one million homes for over six decades. Alan Woods, Rolls-Royce SMR's Director of Strategy and Business Development, expressed his enthusiasm for the Polish government's decision, highlighting the positive impact the project would have on the country's energy landscape.

This development in Poland coincides with Rolls-Royce SMR's progress in the UK, where it is expected to complete Step 2 of the Generic Design Assessment by independent regulators this summer. This achievement would further solidify the company's position as a frontrunner in the European SMR market.
