Volvo Trucks is preparing to launch the Volvo FH Electric, an electric truck with a 600-kilometre range, set for release in 2025. This new model represents a major step forward in the electrification of heavy-duty transport, offering a solution for longer-distance routes on a single charge.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed optimism about the vehicle’s impact on the market: "Our new electric flagship will be a great complement to our wide range of electric trucks, enabling zero-exhaust emission transport for longer distances. It’s an excellent solution for transport companies that cover high annual mileage and are committed to reducing CO2 emissions."
The extended range of the Volvo FH Electric is achieved through Volvo’s innovative e-axle driveline technology, which enhances battery capacity and overall powertrain efficiency. This innovation, combined with more efficient batteries and an improved battery management system, makes it easier for transport companies to adopt electric trucks for long-haul and interregional routes.
Volvo Trucks is already a global leader in electric truck production, with eight battery-electric models in its lineup that cater to a variety of transport needs, including city distribution, regional haulage, construction, and waste management. The addition of the Volvo FH Electric will further strengthen the company's position in the market.
Volvo’s long-term strategy aims for net-zero emissions by 2040. This goal will be achieved through a three-path technology approach that includes battery-electric trucks, fuel-cell electric vehicles, and internal combustion engines powered by renewable fuels like green hydrogen, biogas, and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO). The launch of the FH Electric is an integral part of this broader vision for a more sustainable future in heavy-duty transport.
