British Steel has announced a major win, securing a multimillion-pound contract to supply essential rail components for Egypt's ambitious new rail network. This project marks the country's first fully electrified mainline and freight line, spanning 660km from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.

Approximately 9,500 tonnes of specialised rail track will be produced at British Steel's Scunthorpe facility. This track is designed for high-speed trains operating at up to 155mph, revolutionising Egypt's passenger and freight transport. British Steel joins a select group of international suppliers contributing to this significant infrastructure project.

Jérôme Bonef, British Steel's commercial export manager for rail, expressed the company's enthusiasm: "We are delighted to contribute to Egypt's transport transformation. British Steel Rail is known for delivering value, ease of collaboration, and world-class quality with on-time deliveries."

Initial shipments are already scheduled for this month and June, with British Steel's rail destined for the port of Alexandria in northern Egypt.
