Sweden and the United States have taken a significant step towards bolstering their nuclear energy capabilities through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement, inked by Swedish Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch and US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, aims to foster cooperation in various aspects of nuclear power development, including research, policy, and technology.

The MoU outlines a framework for both nations to share knowledge and expertise on critical areas like supply chains, financing models, skills development, and advanced nuclear fuel development. Furthermore, the collaboration extends to specific technological areas such as advanced nuclear reactors, waste management, and safety and security.

This partnership comes at a time when both Sweden and the US are actively seeking to expand their nuclear energy capacities. The Swedish government has set ambitious targets to install new nuclear power generation by 2035, while the US continues to explore innovative nuclear technologies.

The agreement underscores the growing recognition of nuclear power's potential role in addressing climate change and ensuring energy security. By combining their resources and expertise, Sweden and the US aim to accelerate the development and deployment of safe, clean, and reliable nuclear energy solutions.
